Pawan Kalyan(Telugu: పవన్ కళ్యాణ్; born Konidala Kalyan Babu on 2 September 1971)[2] is an Indian film actor, director, screenwriter and action choreographer in Telugu cinema. He is the brother of Indian actor Chiranjeevi. He made his acting debut in 1996 with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi.
In 1998, he was starred in Tholi Prema which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu for that Year. He is known for his works in other block busters likeGokulamlo Seetha, Suswagatham, Thammudu, Badri, Kushi Jalsa and Gabbar Singh ...
Personal life
Born to Konidela Venkata Rao and Anjana Devi,[8] Pawan Kalyan is the younger brother ofChiranjeevi and Nagendra Babu.[9] After his divorce from Nandini,[10] Pawan Kalyan marriedRenu Desai on 28 January 2009. She co-starred with him in the films Badri and Johnny[10]and has worked as costume designer for most of his films. The couple have two children, a son named Akira Nandan born in 2004 and a girl named Aadhya born in 2010. Akira was named after Pawan Kalyan's favorite director Akira Kurosawa.He is trained under Satyanand(action).
Kalyan is trained in martial arts.[11][12][13][14] He holds a black belt in karate[15] and has displayed his skills in several of his films. He publicly performed his martial arts skills at several auditoriums.[16] He was awarded the title "Pawan", symbolizing Hanuman. From then, Kalyan Babu became popular as Pawan Kalyan.[17][18][19]
His brother-in-law Allu Aravind is an Indian film producer. Ram Charan Teja Konidala andAllu Arjun are other actors from the family. Pawan Kalyan is a vegetarian. He is highly influenced by Che Guevara, Jiddu Krishnamurti and Swami Vivekananda's philosophy.[20]

Early Career(1996-1998)
Pawan Kalyan entered the Telugu movie industry with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi(1996) as Kalyan Babu in which he performed martial arts action sequences. This movie ran for 100days in 4 Centres all over the state and managed to be a hit movie for the debutant. His second movie was Gokulamlo Seetha (1997), which is a remake of the 1996 Tamil film Gokulathil Seethai.Raasi is the heroine in the movie. This movie is directed by Muthyala Subbaiah and produced by G.V.G. Raju. Music for this movie was scored by Koti.This movie brought mass image to Pawan Kalyan. This movie completed its 100 day run in 11 theaters. He also starred in Suswagatham, which is also a remake of a Tamil film Love Todaystarring Joseph Vijay, Suvalakshmi and Raghuvaran released in May 1997. (1997).This film is the first blockbuster of Pawan Kalyan and the movie ran for 100 Days in 16 centres. And this movie eventually made Pawankalyan as one of the big commercial hero in Tollywood after the existing top heroes.

In 1998, Tholi Prema released and received 6 Nandi Awards and National Award for the Best Feature Film (Telugu).[21].The film was later remade in Hindi as Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai starring Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. It was dubbed in Tamil as Aanandha Mazhai. After Tholi Prema, Pawan acted in Thammudu (1999) playing the role of a kickboxer.Thammudu was released on July 15, 1999 and written and directed by P.A. Arun Prasad. The film starred Preeti Jhangiani, Aditi Govitrikar,Achyuth,Chandra Mohan,Mallikarjuna Rao. The music was composed by Ramana Gogula.This was one of the biggest hits in the year 1999 which brought Cult fan base to Pawan Kalyan.This movie was Remade in Tamil as Badri and in Kannada as Yuvaraja by noted director Puri Jagannath[1].It successfully ran for 100 days in 23 centres.Pawan In 2000, he featured in Puri Jagannadh's first directorial venture Badri.This was Ramana Gogula's second time working with Pawan Kalyan. In 2004 Puri Jagannadh remade the film in hindi as Shart: The Challenge .This film(Badri) completed its 100-day run in 42 centres. Later Pawan Kalyan appeared in the film Kushi which was released on 27 April 2001 and was directed by S.J. Suryah.It was S.J. Suryah's directional venture into Telugu. Pawan Kalyan, Bhoomika Chawla andSivaji paired up for the first time in this film. The music composed by Mani Sharma was a huge hit. This was declared to be a all time industry record by collecting 27 crores.It completed 100 days in 79 centres is one of the most successful film in Pawan Kalyan's career.

After the release of Kushi, Pawan Kalyan took a long gap of two years in his film career. He went to Japan for a brief period to learn a martial art called Aikido. He learnt this stunt to use in his first directorial venture Johnny.It was released on 26 April 2003, written and directed by Pawan Kalyan. Kalyan also starred in the film, along with Renu Desai.Amidst of huge expectations it bombed at box office.The Music for Johnny was composed by Ramana Gogula for the third time. His next release Gudumba Shankar released on September 10, 2004 directed by Veera Shankar(directional debut) and produced by Pawan's brother Nagendra Babu on Anjana Productions banner. Pawan Kalyan played the lead role as Gudumba Shankar when Meera Jasmine, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Sayaji Shinde played other vital roles.The film's script and screenplay were written by Pawan Kalyan.He also choreographed three songs in this film and actions scenes were conceived and choreographed by him and crtics appreciated Pawan for his skills.The music was scored by Mani Sharma for the second time with Pawa Kalyan after Kushi.Though the movie got super hit talk on the first day slowly it flopped but ran 100 days in 2 cetres through Pawan Kalyan's craze.Later it gained a good following. Then Balu ABCDEFG film released on 6 January 2005 directed by A. Karunakaran for the second time with Pawan Kalyan after Tholi Prema.This film starred Shriya Saranand Neha Oberoi and was produced by C. Ashwini Dutt under his production company Vyjayanthi Movies. The movie was a good grosser at the box office; it ran for 100 days successfully in 8 theaters in Andhra Pradesh.This was the first telugu film to be released inAfrica after 60 years. Bangaram ,which released on 3 May 2006 was directed by Tamil director Dharani.Pawan played the lead role ad starred Meera Chopra,Raja,Reema Sen,Ashutosh Rana, Mukesh Rishi.The movie was an average grosser at box office and completed 100 days in 5 centres.Later Annavaram directed by Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao (of Suswagatham fame), and starring Pawan Kalyan, Asin, and Sandhya. Mega Supergood Films produced the film. The film, released on 29 December 2006, proved to be an above average grosser at the box office. The soundtrack of the film, released on 14 December 2006, received a good response.[1] It is a remake of the Tamil film Thirupaachi, which starred Joseph Vijay and Trisha Krishnan.After a long gap Pawan Kalyan choreographed a song 'Neevalle Neevalle' in this film.

In 2008, Jalsa directed by Trivikram Srinivas and produced by Allu Aravind, under the Geetha Arts banner. The film starred Ileana D'Cruzand Parvati Melton in pivotal roles oppsite Pawan Kalyan. The soundtrack of the film, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, was launched on 29 February 2008.The audio rights were sold to Aditya Music for 90 lakhs,the highest for a Telugu film till date.[6] The music got very good reviews from websites and an excellent response from the public itself. The music has been topping the charts since its release.[11][12] Devi Sri Prasad received the 2008 Santosham Best Music Director Award for his work on the film's music. The film was originally scheduled to be released on 27 March 2008, but because of delays in the digital intermediate (DI) process, the film was released on 2 April 2008. The film was released with 320 prints in 1000 theatres and gained tremendous response and successfully completed 100 days in 25 centres.Later,after 2 years,Puli written and directed by S. J. Suryaah, starring Pawan Kalyan in the lead role, with Nikeesha Patel, Manoj Bajpai, Charan Raj, Nassar, Jyothi Krishna, Brahmaji, Ali and Girish Karnad in supporting roles and Shriya Saran appearing in an item number.[2] The film features a soundtrack by A. R. Rahman and cinematography by Binod Pradhan. It was produced by Navodaya Appachan and Singanamala Ramesh on a 35 crore budget and was distributed Geetha Arts. The film was released on September 10 worldwide with 600 prints in 1000 theatres,a record of sorts for a Telugu film.The makers of the film re-edited it due to very poor reviews and re-released the shortened version on 15 September 2010.[18] The final outcome however was disappointing. The film was declared as a flop at the box office.The film was originally titled Komaram Puli but was renamed as Puli on the second day of release, following objections by Komaram Sony Rao, grandson of the tribal legend Komaram Bheem, from whose name the title of the movie was taken.The audio sales reached a total of 1.6 lakhs of CDs in the first three days, which is an all-time record in Telugu film history.[22][relevant? – discuss].
Pawan Kalyan first release of 2011 was Theenmaar directed by Jayanth C. Paranjee in which he portrayed the two contrasting characters of present and yesteryear generations for the first time.The film is a remake of the successful hindi film Love Aaj KalThe film's music is composed by Mani Sharma. The film portrays the feeling of pure love which never changes, although the perspective of realizing one's soulmate has changed over time. The film, which was earlier referred to as Khushiga and Lovely, before being officially titled as Teenmaar,[23][24][25] has released on 14 April 2011.[26] The audio of the film is released on 21 March 2011.[27]
MAA TV has bought Theemaar Satellite rights for Rs 5.5 Crores [28].
Following this, Pawan Kalyan appeared in a Vishnuvardhan's gangster film Panjaa.The film, jointly produced by Arka Mediaworks and Sanghamitra Art Productions, also stars Sarah-Jane Dias, Anjali Lavania, Jackie Shroff and Sesh Adivi, while featuring music scored byYuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography handled by P. S. Vinod.[29][30]
The film, initially known under the working title The Shadow, began its principal photography in early May 2011, which was completed by October 2011, with filming being held primarily at Kolkata, West Bengal, Pollachi and Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu and Vagamon inKerala.[31] A gangster film with mafia backdrop,[2]A teaser trailer was released a day prior to Diwali, which received high response. According to Sify, it was seen more than 1 lakh (100,000) times on the official YouTube channel within 24 hours, setting a new record.[32][33].Panjaa was released on 9 December 2011.It received mixed reviews from critics. The movie was criticized for lack of story and a strong screenplay. Though the movie was praised for its stylish presentation.
In September 2011, Pawan began shooting for the movie Gabbar Singh. The movie is being directed by Harish Shankar and produced by Bandla Ganesh. The movie is a remake of the Hindi film Dabangg.[34] After this film Pawan is slated to work in Puri Jagannadh'sCameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu. The film is being produced by D. V. V. Danayya and filming is set to begin in Mid June.AfterCameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu he is going to work with Trivikram Srinivas for the second time though there is no official announcement.It is said to be a complete family entertainer.
